Presented by Dr. Victoria S. Brown Annual Report Presented by Dr. Victoria S. Brown Board of Trustees Committee on Academic and Student Affairs Date Good morning, On behalf of the team at the center for eLearning, I am sharing the progress made in the last year.

Before I begin sharing with you stats Before I begin sharing with you stats. Let’s hear from one of our distance learning students about their experiences in taking courses from one of our online programs. Play video of DL Student talking about their experiences.

Quality is at the core of everything activity at the Center Quality is at the core of everything activity at the Center. First, the instructional designers and the faculty partner together to develop courses that engage students in the learning. The departments work closely with the center to develop a cohesive online programs. The departments are backed by student support services through our one-stop website, online tutorial support, and toll-free assistance number.

Fully Online Degree Programs This year, through the program migration program, FAU was able to expand the online program offerings in both the graduate and undergraduate areas. These included an undergraduate programs in criminal justice, computer science, and geosciences. The graduate programs were from the College of Education Masters in Multicutural Education and TESOL. We are currently expanding the Master options in educational leadership for next year. Undergraduate programs in the curriculum/program development process right now for potential online are statisitics and interprofessional in Health Sciences.

eDesign courses completed 27 80 Activities 2014/15 2015/16 eDesign courses completed 27 80 Courses developed or in eDesign 50 131+ eCertification 11 47 Faculty currently engaged in professional development programs 200 367 The professional development team is becoming recognized across the state. Florida Distance Learning Association partnered with us to develop statewide mini-webinaires which are now being included into the BOG professional development plan. The course development process used by the center is about to be published in a research handbook that will be released next year. The course development process we are using incorporates rapided development techniques while maintaining the faculty member’s unique teaching styles. As a result, the number of courses being completed has doubled, as well as the number of courses coming into the center for development. Participation in the professional development as also doubled.

Student Quote: “The class was amazing. I work around 30 hours a week . It’s harder to be disciplined when you’re taking a fully online course; because of her meticulous planning this course was easy to follow and enjoyable.” These efforts are paying off as students have noticed the improved quality in the courses. In an evaluation of the different course development model’s, students rated those developed through the partnership of the professor as signficantly higher in quality.

Key Performance Indicator Florida Atlantic University’s Full-Time Equivalent (FTE) Enrollment by Method of Instruction The results of our work is reflected in the gradual growth of distance learning. As distance learning is growing, the enrollment has also grown so the percentages are not changing as rapidly. FAU now has the curriculum in place and a deeper awareness of the importance of offering more online curriculum combined with marketing efforts, these numbers should begin changing.

Number of eLearning Seats This chart indicates the growth of online seats used by the students.

Student Quote “This course was very well thought out and explained. Professor Arneklev provided us with hand outs that where extremely helpful when learning the material and studying for the exams. The professor gave positive feedback. It was easy to notice that the professor cares about his students’ success in his class.” As you can see from this quote the students appreciate the extra effort the faculty put into the development of the online courses to ensure the quality of the course.

Moving Forward Rapidly increase course sections available Increase participation in professional development Create a DL Student Support Center Launch a marketing campaign

Student Quote “Professor Amento seems to care about her students. She does a fantastic job on her video lectures (much better than the textbook). She actually made calculus enjoyable and understandable.”
