Welcome to the ECEC Programs! We have two centers: 200 Farrington (Preschool) 100 Farrington (Infant Toddler)

Who are we? The ECEC is part of the Bayh College of Education, and the Department of Teaching and Learning We enroll the children of ISU students, staff, faculty, and community members Many ISU faculty send students to our program for field experience observations, research projects, or to teach lessons. We are please to have you spend time at the ECEC; the slides that follow will help you have a great experience that will supplement your in class instruction and readings

Where are we located? Please see the map on the link. NOTE: To change images on this slide, select a picture and delete it. Field Experience Requirements All students need to have an annual T.B test before beginning participation. Bring your tb test to the center the first time you visit. Please call if you are going to be absent or late (237-2547). Your classroom teacher will schedule make-up times with you.   Professional attitudes: Confidentiality is a must; do not discuss individual children outside of our classroom or your ISU classroom. Dress in clean, comfortable, professional looking clothes, and wear a name tag each time you participate. Students should not chew gum, or bring food or drinks into the classroom. Purses and back packs can be left in your car, or need to be kept in a designated drawer in the classroom; out of children’s reach. Please turn cell phones off while in the classroom. Arrival and departure: You are expected to be on time for your participation, and stay with the class for the expected time. Sign in each time you participate, and have a staff member initial your form. Backpacks and purses must be stored safely out of children’s reach, in drawers designated for this purpose in each classroom or in our office or staff room areas.

Dress Code Shoes: Need to allow us to move easily, and not trip. No high heels. Sandals are ok, but we don’t wear “flip flops” because they are too casual, and don’t allow you to move around as quickly as you might have to. No. it doesn’t matter how expensive the flip flops are! Pants/Shorts Pants or nice jeans are appropriate but should not be torn, low cut or drag on the floor. Shorts should be no shorter than finger tip length. No sweats, yoga pants, or leggings please! Shirts: T-shirts are ok, should be “nice,” and not too short or tight. No visible cleavage please! T-shirts may have ISU, ECEC, or other “teacher” slogans, but no other writing or slogans, please. Wear your name badge at all times, so that parents can easily know who is a staff member and who is an ISU practicum student. Please remove hats, jackets, or hoodies while indoors. Shoes are not worn in the infant classroom; you may wear socks or booties that we provide.

Infant Classrooms: Some babies are afraid of strangers, but will warm up to you in time. We have learned that it’s best to have babies approach visitors on their own terms! Sitting down, being quiet, and only interacting with the babies after they’re used to you will help you have a better experience.

Signing In: We will keep attendance using a form that your ECEC teacher will keep in her classroom. Be sure to sign in and out each day! When you leave, the classroom teacher will initial to confirm your attendance. No initials mean that your hours for that day don’t count! Introduce yourselves to our staff when you arrive, and please ask questions! Staff will answer when they are not caring for children.

Remember to sit down while doing observations Remember to sit down while doing observations. The children will act more naturally if they don’t know they’re being watched!

Calendar and Absences The ECEC follows the ISU calendar, not the Vigo County Calendar. We will be closed if ISU is closed due to bad weather, etc. If you are ill with a contagious illness please inform your ISU professor, then call the ECEC at 812 237-2547. We will inform your ECEC classroom teacher, and you can arrange a make up time when you next visit the center. Always wash your hands when you arrive in a classroom, and before you leave to stop the spread of germs.

Contract – please sign and bring to the ECEC This contract will serve as a document of understanding between the faculty and staff of the Early Childhood Education Center and students assigned for the practicum portion of AHS 237 I have read the handouts provided by the practicum site teacher. I agree to abide by all policies and procedures outlined for me. Specifically:   I will call in the event that I will be absent or late, and arrange for make-up hours. I understand that regular attendance at the assigned time is expected, and that make-ups must be scheduled for times missed. I will dress professionally and appropriately. No hats, jackets, or inappropriate clothing will be worn in the classroom. I understand that bringing food, gum, or beverages into the classroom is not acceptable.  If I have questions or concerns, I will speak to the practicum site teacher. I understand that I may not begin my practicum experience until the practicum site teacher has received a copy of my negative TB test. _______________________________ Print Name  _______________________________ __________________Date Signature
