Modeling Worship Luke 10:38-42

THE KINGDOM OF GOD IS AT HAND Luke 10:9,11

38 Now it happened as they went that He entered a certain village; and a certain woman named Martha welcomed Him into her house. 39 And she had a sister called Mary, who also sat at Jesus' feet and heard His word. 40 But Martha was distracted with much serving, and she approached Him and said, Luke 10:38-42 NKJV

“an hour is coming when neither in this mountain, nor in Jerusalem, shall you worship the Father. An hour is coming when the true worshipers shall worship the Father in spirit and truth; for such people the Father seeks to be His worshipers. God is spirit, and those who worship Him must worship in spirit and truth” John 4:23-24 NKJV

Worshiping in spirit is the opposite of worshiping in flesh.

1 Corinthians 13:4-5 Real love, godly love is not self-seeking, never haughty, selfish or rude, it doesn’t strut, but is modest and humble. paraphrased

The spirit never glorifies himself, but He will glorify Christ.

Worshiping in truth as opposed to worshiping insincerely.

"Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone "Lord, do You not care that my sister has left me to serve alone? Therefore tell her to help me." 41 And Jesus answered and said to her, "Martha, Martha, you are worried and troubled about many things. 42 But one thing is needed, and Mary has chosen that good part, which will not be taken away from her." Luke 10:38-42 NKJV

Worship is humbly sitting with Jesus

LUKE 10 JOHN 12

JOHN 11………………………….…………..Luke 10

Will we change our form of worship, the most common form we see today, to the one modeled by Mary?

John 12:2 (NLT) 2 A dinner was prepared in Jesus’ honor. Martha served, and Lazarus was among those who ate with him.

an example of genuine worship

Let her be… John 12:7

The method of worship is not as important as the purpose of worship!.

John 12:8 (NLT) 8  You will always have the poor among you, but you will not always have me.”

“Wherever two or more of you are gathered in My Name – there I Am, in the midst of you.” Where God is, is Holy Ground! Matthew 18:20 & Exodus 3:5

HOLY GROUND # 224

We get so busy doing for the Lord, that we don’t have time to sit before the Lord and listen to His Word.

12 "Most assuredly, I say to you, he who believes in Me, the works that I do he will do also; and greater works than these he will do, because I go to My Father.” John 14:12

Mary first worshipped the Lord by sitting at his feet (Luke 10) then Mary served the Lord by washing His feet (John 12) Luke 10 & John 12

Worship is about God, about bringing ourselves and our offerings to Him, and not about us.

PSALM 96:8 “Ascribe to the Lord the glory due His name; bring an offering and come into His court.”

A key principle of genuine worship is that it costs you something.

The price of change!

The price of change! “I will not offer a sacrifice or an offering to the Lord my God that cost me nothing” 2 Sa. 24:24.

Real worship requires HUMILITY

Real worship requires LISTENING

Real worship involves SERVING Romans 12:1 (NKJV) 1  I beseech you therefore, brethren, by the mercies of God, that you present your bodies a living sacrifice, holy, acceptable to God, which is your reasonable service.

Real worship acknowledges God’s PRESENCE
