Solar and Lunar Eclipses
Solar Eclipse. Here is an animation showing a total solar eclipse Remember that it is not safe to stare at a solar eclipse !!!
Eclipses When the moon’s shadow hits Earth or Earth’s shadow hits the moon, an eclipse occurs. There are 2 types of eclipses: solar (sun) eclipse & lunar.
 When the moon’s shadow hits the Earth or when the Earth’s shadow hits the moon an eclipse occurs.

Eclipses. The Sun and Moon occasionally line up so that we have an eclipse. Revolution of the moon causes eclipses. An eclipse is defined as an astronomical.

Eclipses

Two types Solar eclipse – occurs when the new moon comes directly between the sun and the Earth. (SUN is blocked)

Lunar eclipse – occurs when the Earth comes directly between the sun and the full moon. (MOON is blocked)

Any shadow has two parts: Umbra – small, inner shadow in either eclipse. If you are in the path of the umbra, you will see a TOTAL eclipse.

Penumbra – the larger, outer shadow Penumbra – the larger, outer shadow. People in the penumbra will see a PARTIAL eclipse.

Why is there not a solar or lunar eclipse every month?

The moon’s orbit is tilted in relation to ours The moon’s orbit is tilted in relation to ours. It only happens when the Earth, moon, and sun are lined up perfectly.
