Review of the Professional Standards The National Conversation GTC Scotland 11 November 2018

Review of the Professional Standards Purpose To engage participants in a structured discussion about the suite of professional standards. GTC Scotland 11 November 2018

‘not a complete review but rather a time for a refresh’ Review of the Professional Standards A National Conversation “Your Professional Standards, Your Professional Voice”   5 years have now passed since the introduction of the suite of Professional Standards. Having given a commitment to review the Professional Standards, it is time to reflect on how these have impacted on the profession and to consider in what ways they can be improved. Original thinking is that this is; ‘not a complete review but rather a time for a refresh’ But this is subject to change in the consultation phase GTC Scotland 11 November 2018

Review of the Professional Standards A National Conversation “Your Professional Standards, Your Professional Voice” National conversation Launched at the Scottish Learning Festival, the next step in this review process is to start a National Conversation around the Professional Standards. There will be a Scotland wide data gathering exercise led by GTCS staff to engage partners, teachers, parents, children and young people and stakeholders in discussing what Professional Standards mean to them and what they should look like in the future. GTC Scotland 11 November 2018

‘engaging your professional voice’ Review of the Professional Standards A National Conversation “Your Professional Standards, Your Professional Voice” Engagement School leaders/leaders are invited to engage staff in their establishment, either in small groups e.g. departments/faculties or in a whole staff meeting, to all participants to share their perceptions and experiences and contribute their voice to the national conversation. ‘engaging your professional voice’ GTC Scotland 11 November 2018

Review of the Professional Standards A National Conversation “Your Professional Standards, Your Professional Voice” We would like you (and your colleagues) to reflect as individuals or consider collaboratively the following questions with respect to the professional standards: What works? What doesn’t work? What would you change and how? The how to do this is up to you! GTC Scotland 11 November 2018

Review of the Professional Standards A National Conversation “Your Professional Standards, Your Professional Voice” Data Gathering You know your context better than anyone else, what will be the best way to gather the responses? You may want to capture your professional voices: on flip chart and then photograph these and email: standards@GTCS.org.uk in another format that can be email: standards@GTCS.org.uk on the webform on the GTCS website, here GTC Scotland 11 November 2018

Review of the Professional Standards A National Conversation “Your Professional Standards, Your Professional Voice” What’s next? From January 2018 to June 2018 we will analyse all the responses and collate the key messages which will be shared with the working groups and on the GTCS website.   The working groups, informed by the data gathering exercise, will then offer some suggested changes to the Professional Standards for consultation with stakeholders from Autumn 18. GTC Scotland 11 November 2018
