What is an adaptation Adaptation – a physical trait that helps in the survival of the species A slow process that occurs over time so that a species survives in its environment Ex: armor, flight, speed, sharp teeth, insulation
Types of adaptations Armor – protects against other predator and the environment Flight – able to move above the ground to stay away from predator or catch prey Speed – used to take down prey or escape predators
Types of adaptations Radiation – ability to let off heat during hot times Webbed feet – allows animals to walk and have an advantage while swimming Sharp teeth– used for hunting and killing prey
Types of adaptations Mimicry - similarity of one organism to another Warning Coloration - bright colors possessed by an animal that serve as a warning to potential predators that it is toxic or distasteful
Types of adaptations Sharp claws– used to attack and take down prey, dig for food or shelter, climbing, ward off predators Camouflage – helps animals blend in with their surroundings BrainPOP - Camouflage Create a butterfly to camouflage within the classroom not under or in between desks or chairs.
