United States Army Chief of Transportation FTTS ACTD Update BG (P) Brian I. Geehan United States Army Chief of Transportation 3 February 2004

3 to 1 8 to 1 4 to 2 5 to 1 FTTS ACTD Objective Load Handling System 8 to 1 Med & Heavy Truck Variants Numerous Material Handling Equipment 4 to 2 FTTS-MSV 5 to 1 Not only does the FTTS replace the myriad of current vehicles, the revolutionary system will reduce the logistical foot print significantly while increasing the efficiency of sustaining the Obj Force. The FTTS-MS will replace the HEMTT, FMTV family of vehicles, and the PLS, reducing the large variation in parts support. The FTTS-U will replace the HMMWV, and will have commonality with the MS vehicle. Both the FTTS-MS and FTTS-U vehicles will reduce the amount of fuel consumed during resupply operations. The Advanced Load handler will have the capability to replace materiel handling equipment on the battlefield. The FTTS coupled with Smart Distribution platforms will create a direct interface with Aircraft and Ships, further reducing the amount of equipment required and reducing the number of personnel as well as creating a significant decrease in exchange time. Reducing the Logistics tail and increasing the speed of through put are the essence of supporting the OBJ Force. Modular Platform Numerous Delivery Platforms FTTS-UV provides Command and Control and includes a Hybrid propulsion system for increased fuel efficiency and onboard power Numerous Interface Devices A SEAMLESS Distribution SYSTEM built for the Obj Force (Applied to the SBCT to evolve the TTPs, CONOPS, and doctrine)

C4ISR (PWR & SPACE) Sir, Now I’d like to “shift gears” and and transition to the FTTS ACTD and the approach to hybrid technologies. Left are the 6 capabilities (Benefits) that hybrid propulsion may provide to the warfighter. I’d like to point out the correlation to the ACTD objectives I mentioned earlier in the briefing. The ACTD is geared to 8. WATER GENERATION 8. WEAPON SYSTEM 9. MOBILITY 9. SYSTEM WEIGHT/VOLUME 10. TRANSPORT TIME/ RSOI 10. C4ISR (POWER&SPACE) 11. SYSTEM WEIGHT/VOLUME 11. POWER GENERATION

Block available technology into the current fleet. And conduct the FTTS ACTD to determine future requirements for the Unit of Action and Unit of Employment. The Military Utility Assessment with PACOM and SBCT #2 in FY 06 provides the assessment to decide those technologies to block into the current fleet and gives an assessment of the need and affordability of new MSV and UV for the future fleet.
