Prepositions

What are prepositions? Prepositions show relationships Notice the different relationships in the following sentences: The road runs over the mountain. The road runs through the mountain. The road runs around the mountain. The prepositions over, through, and around show relationship between mountain and the verb runs. Mountain is the OBJECT OF THE PREPOSTION in all of the above sentences.

Prepositional Phrase A prepositional phrase consists of a preposition, its object, and any modifiers. Preposition + object + any modifiers = prepositional phrase EX: The crowds were entertained by a band.
