You all know that the addresses of many websites begin with “ www”. But do you know what these 3 letters stand for? They stand for “World Wide Web” (мировая паутина).

The Internet was created in 1975 by Tim Berners-Lee and in the 70s and 80s it was used only by academics and military researchers, but in the 90s its popularity boomed.

There are many Internet browsers nowadays – Internet Explorer, Mozilla, Amigo, Opera etc. And if we want to find some information in the Internet, we use one of the existing search programs such as Google, Rambler, Yandex or Yahoo.

Very soon, as scientists predict, the Internet will be 3D, not 2D, and everything from our cars to our kitchen appliances will be connected to our local networks. There is already an “Internet fridge”, for example, that emails a shopping list to your local supermarket.

However, the Internet has disadvantages too However, the Internet has disadvantages too. Surfing in the Internet takes a lot of our time and may cause health problems. People sit in the same pose, look at the screen for a long time because they are so interested in something that they can’t stop themselves.

What’s more, there are thousands of sites available and many of them are unsuitable for children. In addition, there is a danger to our files. In the Internet we can pick up viruses.
