#1 GOOGLE ADVANCED SEARCH Find web pages that have… All these words- type in a group of words that relate to the subject you want to find. This exact wording or phrase- Type exactly what you want to search for. You can do this in standard search by "surrounding your phrase with quotes". One or more of these words- Type up to three words to search for. Anything with at least one of the words will show up. You do this in standard search by typing OR between your alternate words. But don’t show pages that have… Any of these unwanted words- Type in words that you do not want to appear in the results for your search. You can do this in standard search by adding a - (minus sign) to the beginning of the word you don't want.

Need more tools? Reading level- chose the reading level you want the results to be. Results per page- chose number of results you want to appear for your search. Language- chose the language you want the results to be in. File type- chose the format you want the results to be in. Search within a site or domain- type in what website or domain you want your result to be from. Date, usage rights, numeric range, and more… Date- chose a time frame of how recent the page is Usage rights- chose the usage rights you want on the page Where your keywords show up- chose where you want the keywords you put in to be located. Region- chose a region you want the result page to be from Numeric Range-type a range of numbers when you want pages containing those numbers in the range. Safe search- allows you to check YES or NO to prevent showing results that have explicit content   Page Specific Tools: Find pages similar to the page- type in a web page that you want to search for pages similar to it Find pages that link to the page- Type in a web page that you want to find links to

#2 Google Search Basics Basic Search Wildcard (*) Plus sign (+) Symbols Double quotes ("") Minus sign (-) Wildcard (*) Plus sign (+) The basic search help covers common issues highlights the more advanced features of Google Web Search putting double quotes ("") around words tells Google to search the exact words you are looking for Allows you to search a specific website by search results (site:) When attaching a minus sign (-) it tells the site to not include the word in your results. The * also known as the wildcard, is a very powerful feature. tells Google to try to treat the star as a placeholder for any unknown word(s) find the best matches only works on whole words, not parts of words adding (+) without a space after the symbol tells Google to match the word(s) precisely as it was typed placing double quotes around a single word will does the same thing Google’s default behavior considers all the words you type in a search Using the (OR) feature, which has to be in ALL CAPS specifically allows either one of several words to be searched Some punctuation isn’t ignored, such as the $ is used to indicate prices The underscore symbol isn’t ignored while connecting two words

#3 Basic Search Help All searches are case sensitive Punctuation is ignored Searches should simple Use the most descriptive words possible To search type item in box and click Search or press Enter Usually you will find what you are looking for All searches are case insensitive Almost always punctuation is ignored, including symbols Keep all searches as simple as possible Ex. If you are looking for a particular concept, place, or company type the name it and your zip code Use the least amount of words possible in search Try to search words that will appear on the web page Because all words are used in search This limits results Don’t limit search to much If you cant find what you are looking for with limited search, you should get a good idea of words you need to add   Use the most descriptive words possible You will have a more likely chance of finding what you are looking for

Tools and Filters Type of Content- try to limit yourself to a particular type of web content or stick with the default Everything 5.
