Othello Act 1 Quiz

Quotes Be ready to identify notable quotes from the following characters: Brabantino Cassio Desdemona Duke Iago Othello Roderigo

Important Information A moor is a dark-skinned African person who was born in the city of Morocco or Mauritania, typically of Islamic faith Othello is being sent to Cyprus Othello will be fighting against the Ottoman Empire or the Turks Iago’s major complaint is being passed over for the job of the lieutenant. He thinks he is a better man for the job than Cassio. Cassio is known for his book smarts but Iago has more experience. Brabantino thinks Othello used magic, charms, or enchantments to win Desdemona's feelings.

Important Information Continued Brabantino would invite Othello over to share his stories about war and Othello’s life. Desdemona would often listen to Othello’s stories when she wasn’t required to do housework. It was all the time that Desdemona and Othello spent together through Brabantino’s interest in Othello’s stories that allowed Desdemona and Othello to fall in love. Desdemona feels a divided duty to her father and her husband. She owes her father, Brabantino, her life and her education. She owes her husband, Othello, her allegiance because she married him. She feels she must be faithful to Othello as her mother was faithful to her father.
