Hitler youth organization By : Katie McGuire & Sierra Nazlerod

Hitler firmly believed that the future of Nazi Germany rested in its children. Was founded in 1922 children could officially join at age 10 Children were taught "racial pride" Children were told to avoid any contact with Jews The layout of the organization was based on military formations (having squads, platoons, and companies) The organization was divided into two branches, one for each gender, and then two more, for 10-14 year old's, and 14-18 year old's Basic Information Grundinformation

Hitler's boy soldiers Hitler Jungensoldaten

What were they taught? How to dig trenches Pistol shooting How to march Grenade throwing Map reading Gas defense Bayonet drills Use of dugouts Men were trained for 10-18 for the military.  From very impressionable ages, they were taught things like gas defense, how to march and shoot pistols, how to get under barbed wire, map reading, trench digging grenade throwing, and fierce discipline. Hitler was very favorable of the idea that the Nazi ideas needed to be pressed onto the children at early ages. When Hitler came to power, not only did he change after school activities fir the children, he also changed the school system to favor himself and the Nazi party. This, coupled with the fact that the children were taught racial pride, started what's called a domino effect. The children would be taught early on, would go to these meetings( along with the changed school system), and would join the military early on.This lead to these children needing severe rehabilitation at the end of the war.

Place in the War After 18, boys were required to go into the war From early on they were taught how to be proper soldiers Towards the end of the war, younger and younger boys were sent to fight in the Volkssturn (the last line of defense).

Place in Society The boys were treated as actual soldiers Were taught to put out fires  Helped farm protect their society

Uniform Brown shirt Black shorts Black necktie arm band Belt and buckle Neat hair Later on it was required to have a knife specifically for the Hitler youth

Meaning behind uniform  Give sense of being in a group Have no difference through class Give ability to move and stay active So all boys looked alike Promote unity Promote patriotism

Hitler's girl soldiers Bund Deutscher Madel

What were they taught? The girls were groomed for the life of a married women Cook Clean Basic first aid Basic camp skills Tradition  Folkorism

Place in the war They girls didn't get into battle as much as the boys At first everyone was against using the girls at all  September 1944  women were ordered to fight along the Nazi Party They joined the last line of defense (Volkssturm)

Place in society  The women were expected to fit Hitler's ideal women standard Were expected to have "babies for Hitler"

Music in the Hitler youth Group singing taught group cohesion and obedience Hitler youth would preform for high ranking Nazi officials Taught formal music training

Schools in Nazi time History was changed to make Nazis seem better Many students were too exhausted to continue education The war interrupted almost all education Many children did not continue education, and went straight into serving for the war

Comparison Hitler's Boy Soldiers Hitler's Girl Soldiers Required to be in some branch of military (after 18) Military training Focus of events Outings Extreme discipline After 18, expected to become a wife No military training Outings discipline
