VISION Develop winning programs that build character and promote academic achievement

To help our students grow as players, pupils, and people MISSION To help our students grow as players, pupils, and people

ATHLETIC PHILOSOPHY Roxana High School’s Athletic Programs will strive for excellence in all we do. We are educators as well as coaches and we will work to develop the best possible athletes, students, and people. All of our students are valued and can benefit from participation in, and support of, our athletic programs. The highest standards of sportsmanship and character will be displayed by our coaches, athletes, and fans. We will constantly work to provide athletes and teams that the school and community can take pride in supporting.

ATHLETE EXPECTATIONS Understand that academic responsibilities come first and maintain their academic eligibility Make and keep a commitment to the success of the whole Roxana Athletic Program Engage in positive peer pressure and encourage their teammates to follow the athletic code, especially in regards to remaining drug and alcohol free year round. Have a good work ethic and strive to obtain realistic and challenging individual and team goals demonstrate leadership through actions and sportsmanship on and off the field Respect coaches, teammates, officials, parents, administration, and RHS facilities and equipment

WHAT SHOULD COME FROM PARTICIPATION Commitment to sportsmanship Strong work ethic Individual and group skills Understanding of responsibility Leadership skills Character development Life-long friendships Enjoyment from participation

WEEKLY ACADEMIC ELIGIBILITY Eligibility IS run on Wednesdays and forwarded to each head coach. Coaches will be notified on Fridays of the final eligibility status for the following week If a student turned in an assignment on Friday that potentially changes the grade, the teacher must submit documentation of the current grade and signature on Monday morning. Ineligibility will be in effect the following week….Monday-Saturday Students failing to pass 25 semester hours of course work will be ineligible under IHSA guidelines and unable to participate in activities the entire following semester. Students may take summer school to remedy academic deficiencies.

SEMESTER ELIGIBILITY & STUDY HALLS To retain eligibility, a student must pass a minimum of 3.5 semester hours of academic course work in the semester preceding his or her eligibility and must have passed 3.5 semester hours of academic course work in the week preceding his or her eligibility. If a student has one F they will report 2 days per week to a mandatory study hall (prior to attending practice). If a student has two F’s they will report 4 days per week to a mandatory study hall (prior to attending practice.

Laptop Expectation Coaches will provide information on how to keep laptops safe and secure

CODE OF CONDUCT It is our belief that a student who leads a disciplined life and follows the rules is able to perform to the best of his or her ability. A clearly defined code of conduct will promote consistency in behavior that will result in better overall performance for students involved in extra-curricular activities. Further, since any student who is performing for Roxana High School (RHS) represents the school, an effective code of conduct helps insure that the school is portrayed in a positive fashion. Being involved in extra-curricular activities is a privilege and not a right. By establishing a set of criteria to access this privilege, the school district maintains the ability to make each activity a quality growth experience for every participant. By adhering to this code of conduct, students develop not only specific skills and talents, but also habits and behaviors that can be valuable for the remainder of their lives. It is expected that all students who desire to participate will abide by these rules. This code is in effect for the full calendar year.

Team Membership Limitations Try-outs may be conducted and limitations are based on: Availability of personnel to ensure adequate supervision and safety of participants Character and Discipline Work habits and loyalty to the program Positions needed for the team Final determination of an athlete’s team membership will be made by the district athletic director
