Lesson 13: How Much Solute Dissolves in a Solvent? Key Terms

Solubility The amount of solute that will dissolve in a solvent at a given temperature and pressure.

A solution that contains as much of the solute as can be dissolved. Saturated A solution that contains as much of the solute as can be dissolved.

A solution that contains less solute than can be dissolved. Unsaturated A solution that contains less solute than can be dissolved.

A solution that contains more solute than could normally be dissolved. Supersaturated A solution that contains more solute than could normally be dissolved.

Concentration The amount of solute relative to the amount of solvent. Example: 10 grams of NaCl per 1 Liter of H2O
