Working with VIP Level 1 Hands on training

My Personality

(and for DMORT) Challenge for The VIP Program

One of the most difficult aspects of victim identification, and also one that does not receive much attention in the professional literature, is the collection of antemortem data. (Levinson and Granot, 2002 p.149) Despite being a problem most manuals/guides only give the issue cursory attention (if it is even acknowledged at all). Antemortem Data

4. Discussion & Recommendations Prioritize Collection of Appropriate Antemortem Data We believe that identification is a process of nested hypothesis testing that is prioritized by the reliability of matches that can be obtained from contributing data sets These hypotheses are developed from antemortem data

Antemortem data is the prime mover So, at least in principle, antemortem data drives identifications But, forensic science is heavily weighted towards the opposite direction, i.e. driving identifications through collection of postmortem data

Challenges: AM Ante Dental Needs Expanded use of DNA Missing Persons Perception of VIP Needs of the Medical Examiner Types of Disasters

Challenges: PM Expanded use of DNA Types of Disasters Standardized exam Process in Morgue Local influence

New Orleans Lessons -Working with FEMA -Chain of Command -Louisiana Culture
