Short-term Student Exchange Programs A Proposal Zhejiang University July 2, 2005 APRU 9 TH ANNUAL PRESIDENTS MEETING

Student Exchange: an important component of academic exchange between universities from different countries and regions

APRU 9 TH ANNUAL PRESIDENTS MEETING 3 Forms of Student Exchange: Joint Degree Program: joint tutoring of graduate students (ZU with Royal Institute of Technology, Sweden) Exchange with Credits: taking courses at the host university (ZU with Duke University, Tufts University, NUS, etc. ) Short-term Exchange: 4 – 8 weeks, with lectures, seminars, cultural tours, visits to business companies, internships, sports, contests and competitions of various kinds, etc.

APRU 9 TH ANNUAL PRESIDENTS MEETING As exchange with credits involves mutual recognition of qualifications and credit transfer, its operation requires certain conditions. Therefore what is proposed here is short- term student exchange between APRU member universities as a first step, which can promote substantial cooperation between the members and lead to future joint degree programs or credit programs. Short-term Student Exchange Programs
