NHD: EXPLORATION, ENCOUNTER, EXCHANGE IN HISTORY 2015-2016 Theme

EXPLORATION Think of it in terms of “SOMETHING NEW” Trying something new Going somewhere new Thinking in a new way

**Often unexpected and unpredictable** ENCOUNTER Think of it in terms of “INTRODUCED TO” Introduced to new people/groups Introduced to new ideas Introduced to new environments **Often unexpected and unpredictable**

EXCHANGE Think of it in terms of “SHARED” Shared ideas, beliefs, customs Shared goods and disease

NOTE: To change images on this slide, select a picture and delete it. Then click the Insert Picture icon in the placeholder to insert your own image. So for example…..

Remember this picture that I liked…. I like science… I think space is interesting… Maybe my topic should be about NASA and the Space Race?

Checking to see if my topic has everything I need: Exploration: Is NASA going somewhere new? What kind of ideas were new during the space race? Ecounter: What new obstacles were they introduced to? What new technology were they introduced to? What new people were they introduced to?

Checking to see if my topic has everything I need: Exchange: What new information about space do we now share internationally? What new goals do we share when it comes to space exploration? What was a lesson that we share from the space race?

Since I have questions about my topic that also tie back to the theme of Explore, Encounter, and Exchange then I do proceed with research with my topic! HOORAY! HAPPY DAYS 
