EDBI Overview Export Development Bank of Iran (EDBI) is 100% owned by the government. The Bank was established by Act of Parliament in 1991 in order to promote non-oil exports and develop business exchanges with Iran’s international trading partners. The Bank also acts as agent in Iran for the Islamic Development Bank, providing loans to Iranian companies under IDB credit lines. EDBI aims to finance 50% of Iran’s non-oil exports and to build on its current 70% credit facilities for Iranian exports. EDBI also engages in retail banking activities by providing a full range of customer deposit products EDBI has close relationship with EGFI (local ECA) and ICEIEC for its export credit coverage.

Financial Services The Bank’s specific business objective is to provide financial services to exporters of Iranian goods and services, such as: L/C facilities Documentary collections and guarantees Short-term financing ; usually by discounting deferred payment L/Cs. Long-term financing ; granted to the foreign importers under official buyer credit agreements or to the exporter under supplier credit loans. Import financing provided to Iranian exporters for essential raw materials and capital equipment from abroad. Like most of the EXIM banks, EDBI is allowed, based on its article, to issue credit insurance and other export coverage
