As Told By, Chris Haller and Zach Nawrot Oedipus Rex As Told By, Chris Haller and Zach Nawrot

The Priest and the Children All gathered around To ask their great savior To help out their town.

Remains a mystery to all Oedipus promises to solve it The murder of the King Remains a mystery to all Oedipus promises to solve it And the town’s pollution will fall.

Who reveals Oedipus’ flaw. He sends Creon His brother-in-law To bring him Teiresias Who reveals Oedipus’ flaw.

His hubris starts to show As the blind prophet tells the truth That the great king died When Oedipus killed him in his youth.

For telling Teiresias these lies. He thinks Creon wants to be king Oedipus blames Creon For telling Teiresias these lies. He thinks Creon wants to be king And above him he will rise.

Creon doesn’t want this He has all that he needs Jocasta comes to help “Stop this fighting” she pleads.

Creon blames him for the blight Oedipus tells Jocasta Creon blames him for the blight She said don't worry about the prophecy Because she escaped hers one night. She was told her son Would kill the former king So she pierced her son’s ankles And left him for dead, tied up with string.

That he had a similar fate That he was to kill his father Oedipus told Jocasta That he had a similar fate That he was to kill his father And with his mother he would mate. Oedipus did not like this So he ran away from home With no place in mind He just started to roam.

That tried to run him off the road. Oedipus became angry During his travels A problem arose He came upon a carriage That tried to run him off the road. Oedipus became angry And started to fight back He killed all but one Each getting a huge smack. He continued to Thebes Where he saw in the middle A sphinx running the town And he killed it by solving its riddle.

That the prophecy might be true. The messenger says he gave Polybus A messenger arrives With news of dread, That Oedipus’ father Polybus is dead. Oedipus is worried That the prophecy might be true. The messenger says he gave Polybus Baby Oedipus, when he was little and new.

Jocasta begins to worry As she hears the story unfold Things start to come together But what was next to behold The messenger said He didn’t find him tied to a tree Instead he was given him By an old herdsman, with glee.

Before the herdsman is due With tears she tells Oedipus Jocasta runs out Before the herdsman is due With tears she tells Oedipus “These are the last words I will say to you” The herdsman delays But the truth comes out He got baby Oedipus From the town’s old king, no doubt.

Oedipus did kill his dad And married his mother The prophecy was true Oedipus did kill his dad And married his mother And caused the town all this bad. He rushed to tell Jocasta Not knowing how he was feeling But found her in her room Hanging dead from the ceiling.

Oedipus couldn’t take this He lived a life of lies He took a brooch from her clothing And stabbed out his eyes.

He wanted to leave the city The blinded Oedipus Called Creon for help He wanted to leave the city “The pollution was my fault” he said in a yelp. So the blinded Oedipus left With his daughter that day She was all he had left And did not want her to stay There really isn’t anything more to say.
