Quadrilaterals

Quadrilaterals 3.G.1. Understand that shapes in different categories (e.g., rhombuses, rectangles, and others) may share attributes (e.g., having four sides), and that the shared attributes can define a larger category (e.g., quadrilaterals). Recognize rhombuses, rectangles, and squares as examples of quadrilaterals, and draw examples of quadrilaterals that do not belong to any of these subcategories.

Quadrilaterals Quadrilateral means "four sides" (quad means four, lateral means side). A quadrilateral is a four-sided 2 dimensional polygon with four angles. There are many kinds of quadrilaterals.

Quadrilaterals We are going to learn about the five most common types.

SQUARE

Square -All sides congruent -opposite sides parallel -four right angles

PARALLELOGRAM

Parallelogram - -Opposite sides parallel -Opposite sides congruent

RHOMBUS

Rhombus- -It’s a parallelogram -four congruent sides

RECTANGLE

Rectangle - -Opposite sides parallel -opposite sides congruent -four right angles

NOTE: Squares, Rectangles and Rhombuses are all Parallelograms!

Trapezoid

Trapezoid -Only one pair of sides is parallel.
