Swiss – Indonesian Vaccine Formulation Symposium EVALUATION OF THE PANDEMIC POTENTIAL OF H5N1 HIGHLY PATHOGENIC AVIAN INFLUENZA VIRUSES CIRCULATING IN INDONESIA Swiss – Indonesian Vaccine Formulation Symposium

Background Since late 2003 .H5N1 subtype Avian Influenza vius had spread in poutry in several Asian countries include China, Vietnam, Thailand, Cambodia, Korea and Indonesia, also some countries in Europe and Africa ((WHO,2013) In Indonesia, every year the viruses have caused out break among poultry, producing highest number of human victim worldwide, until October 15, 2015, Indonesia had more than 199 confirmed human cases with 167 deaths (WHO,2016)

Based on recent report that Bats (order Chiroptera) and pigs are of particular interest the source of multiple pathogenic viruses for human and domestic animal. Isolation and identification of influenza viruses in bats and others animals in Indonesia is very necessary, considering that Indonesia is endemic regions againts influenza viruses, especially avian influenza virus

Method and Material Samples : fruits bats and wild pigs collected from Kalimantan and Java Island Sera were collected at the field and tissues specimens were obstained at Animal BSL3 Laboratory in Avian Influenza Research Center Univeritas Airlangga at January 2013 –April 2015. All sera and tissue samples stored -80 oC until analysed. Samples inoculated to eggs and cell culture, HA test, HA primes of PCR

Result These research were total of 216 animals had been collected from Kalimantan and Java island were 46 of 216 samples positive of HA test, 17 of 216 positive by antisera H5 test and 4 of 216 samples positive by PCR test
