Prairie Sydney H.

Landscape + Climate Landscape Climate The land is mostly flat There are some ponds There are little hills Climate Too dry for trees It is perfect for grass The winter is cold and summer is hot

Location Some grasslands are in North America They cover more than one fourth of USA

Animals Fox Coyotes Rabbit Mice Bison Ground squirrels Pocket gophers

Adaptations Lots of animals have front legs and paws to help them burrow into the ground to protect them from predators. Many animals blend in with the Prairie land. Some animals, like bison have broad, flat teeth and digestive systems to feed on grass See?

Plants+Adaptations Flowers Tall grasses Short grasses Herbs Many plant’s growing point is underground so if there is a fire it can regrow. Prairie grasses have narrow leaves that lose less water to evaporation. Brightly colored flowers attract pollinators like bees, wasps, and birds.

Living+Nonliving things on the Prairie Rock Sand Water Bones Trash Dirt Living Flowers Grass Herbs Fish Bison squirrels

Human impact Grasslands are disappearing because humans are using the land for farming and urban development. People are building power plants , cities, schools, roads and permanent homes.
