Presentation transcript:

A baby begins when an egg cell (ovum) is fertilized by a reproductive cell (sperm) to form a fertilized egg. The new egg cell keeps dividing as you mature. These cells begin to differentiate in structure and function.

Uterus – The mother’s womb. At the end of the first week a baby burrows into the lining of the uterus.

Week 2 - a structure grows between the baby and mother’s body called a placenta.

Placenta – Keeps the baby attached to wall of the uterus. Allows for exchanges between the baby’s blood and mother’s blood. Serves as the babies kidneys, lungs, and intestines.

Week 3 – The Umbilical Cord forms. Heart starts beating
