Making Good Choices

“Choosing to Give it All you’ve Got”

“Not that I have already obtained all this, or have already been made perfect, but I press on to take hold of that for which Christ Jesus took hold of me. Brothers, I do not consider myself yet to have taken hold of it, but one thing I do: Forgetting what is behind and straining toward what is ahead, I press on toward the goal to win the prize for which God has called me heavenward in Christ Jesus.” Philippians 3:12-14 NIV

We must remember we’re not there yet We still have a lot of growing up to do spiritually Like overcoming our love of the World – 1 John 2:15-17 We need to grow in our faith and knowledge of Jesus – Ephesians 4:11-16; Hebrews 10:24-25; 2 Peter 3:18

We must remember we’re not there yet We still have a lot of work to do for Jesus It’s our job to carry on the ministry of Jesus – Acts 20:32-35; 1 Peter 4:10; Matthew 25:34-46 We’re to preach the Gospel to all creation – Mark 16:15-16; Matthew 28:18-20

We must forget the past We can’t rest on past laurels We’ve done a lot of great things in the past – Philippians 3:4-13; 2 Corinthians 6:1-10 The question is - what are we doing now? – Revelation 2:1-7

We must forget the past We can’t bemoan past failures Failure is part of life! – Philippians 3:6; 1 Corinthians 15:9-10 Ruminating on past failures will only hinder our progress

We must strain toward what is ahead Give it all we have! Make every effort to add to your faith . . . – 2 Peter 1:5-11 Never be lacking in zeal . . . – Romans 12:11

We must strain toward what is ahead Be willing to do whatever it takes Run in such a way as to get the prize – 1 Corinthians 9:24-27 We must learn to deny ourselves . . . – Matthew 16:24-27

We must press on to win the Prize Keep on keeping on, don’t ever give up Let us not become weary in doing good . . . – Galatians 6:9-10 Let us run with perseverance . . . – Hebrews 12:1-3

We must press on to win the Prize Stay focused on the goal Life is full of distractions – Luke 8:14 We must set our hearts and minds on things above – Colossians 3:1-4; 2 Corinthians 4:16-18

“Therefore we do not lose heart “Therefore we do not lose heart. Though outwardly we are wasting away, yet inwardly we are being renewed day by day. For our light and momentary troubles are achieving for us an eternal glory that far outweighs them all. So we fix our eyes not on what is seen, but what is unseen. For what is seen is temporary, but what is unseen is eternal.” 2 Corinthians 4:16-18 NIV
