Month Year doc.: IEEE 802.11-yy/xxxxr0 September 2012 Abstract This contribution proposes the mechanism of simplifying the Probe Response transmission. Giwon Park, LG Electronics Inc. John Doe, Some Company

Conformance w/ TGai PAR & 5C Month Year doc.: IEEE 802.11-yy/xxxxr0 September 2012 Conformance w/ TGai PAR & 5C Conformance Question Response Does the proposal degrade the security offered by Robust Security Network Association (RSNA) already defined in 802.11? No Does the proposal change the MAC SAP interface? Does the proposal require or introduce a change to the 802.1 architecture? Does the proposal introduce a change in the channel access mechanism? Does the proposal introduce a change in the PHY? Which of the following link set-up phases is addressed by the proposal? (1) AP Discovery (2) Network Discovery (3) Link (re-)establishment / exchange of security related messages (4) Higher layer aspects, e.g. IP address assignment 1 Giwon Park, LG Electronics Inc. John Doe, Some Company

Background IEEE 802.11ai SFD (12/0151r12) describes, Month Year doc.: IEEE 802.11-yy/xxxxr0 September 2012 Background IEEE 802.11ai SFD (12/0151r12) describes, 6.2.3 Probe Response 802.11ai shall have mechanism to transmit Probe Response frame to individual and/or broadcast address. 6.2.9 Omission of Probe Request STA may omit a probe request due to reception of , for example, Broadcast probe requests Broadcast probe responses Beacon Based on above SFD, we propose the active scan enhancement through the triggering the broadcast Probe Response and Probe Request omission. Giwon Park, LG Electronics Inc. John Doe, Some Company

Month Year doc.: IEEE 802.11-yy/xxxxr0 September 2012 Proposal The ‘triggering information for broadcast Probe Response transmission’ may be included in Probe Request for helping the broadcast Probe Response transmission of AP. When the STA receives the Broadcast Probe Request from other STA, if the contents of the received Broadcast Probe Request are same as its Probe Request contents and ‘triggering information for broadcast Probe Response transmission’ is included in received broadcast Probe Request, STA may omit its Probe Request transmission. If the AP receives the Probe Request including ‘triggering information for broadcast Probe Response transmission’ from STA, AP sends the broadcast Probe Response to the STAs instead of unicast Probe Response. Giwon Park, LG Electronics Inc. John Doe, Some Company

Example of the proposal (1/2) Month Year doc.: IEEE 802.11-yy/xxxxr0 September 2012 Example of the proposal (1/2) STA 1 sends the Probe Request which is not including the ‘triggering information for broadcast Probe Response transmission’ to the AP. STA 2 overhears the Probe Request sent by STA 1. Because overheared Probe Request is not including the ‘triggering information for broadcast Probe Response transmission’, STA 2 sends the Probe Request which including the ‘triggering information for broadcast Probe Response transmission’ to the AP. STA 3 overhears the Probe Request sent by STA 2. Because overheared Probe Request is including the ‘triggering information for broadcast Probe Response transmission’, STA 3 cancels the Probe Request transmission. AP sends the broadcast Probe Response to the STAs because the AP has received the Probe Request which is including the ‘triggering information for broadcast Probe Response transmission’ from the STA 2. Giwon Park, LG Electronics Inc. John Doe, Some Company
