Algebraic Inequalities

When you solve algebraic inequalities, you follow the same algebra rules as when you are solving an equation. The only difference is what the answer means and one additional rule. Add 11 to both sides Divide both sides by 3 Additional Rule: When you multiply or divide by a negative number, switch the sign. FLIP YOUR SIGN Divide both sides by -2

Graphing Your Answer on a Number Line -6 6 -5 5

Practice Problems -2 2

Practice Problems Distribute -2 Subtract 6 from both sides Divide both sides by -2 and SWITCH the sign -2 2

PRACTICE! PRACTICE! PRACTICE!
