Presentation transcript:

Christmas can be such a joyful time here in Britain and Ireland. As we celebrate Jesus, the light who came into the world, many of us will fill our homes with light and laughter, family and friends. Take a moment to reflect on how you might be celebrating Christmas this year. Note: Be considerate of the fact that for some, Christmas can be a bleak and lonely time.

Food is at the heart of festivities

Colette’s Christmas food Colette prepares food for her family while her daughter Ornela watches.

Colette has not always had enough Colette at home with baby Ornela and her four-year-old daughter Eulalie.

Colette’s life changed Now she has a market garden, Colette does not need to go back to the mines.

Transforming more lives A nutrition demonstration at Samba village, Burkina Faso.

Food crisis in South Sudan A health worker measures a child at a nutrition centre.

Achai’s baby has been saved Without help, Achai’s family were facing extreme hunger.

Hunger in a world of plenty Our dislikes mean a huge amount of waste. We throw away enough gravy from our Christmas dinners to fill a large swimming pool. We waste 74 million mince pies at Christmas. We chuck out so much meat at Christmas that it equates to 2 million turkeys. Wasted sprouts would fill 1,000 wheelie bins.

Make your pledge
