WHY CANCER! RELAY FOR LIFE

HISTORY OF RELAY FOR LIFE Dr. Gordy Klatt decided in May of 1985 to walk and run for 24 hours around a track field in Tacoma, Washington to raise money to help the American Cancer Society fight and find cures for the nation's largest concern. You guessed it CANCER! Dr. Klatt raised $27,000.00 just by himself The next year there were 340 supporter who joined the overnight event. This event is know a worldwide event, raising approximately $5 billion for fight cancer.

What is RELAY you Ask? Its a organized event, within a community staying overnight and raising money to walk for 24 hours. Teams camp out around a track. A member of each team is required to be on the track so team members take turns walking on the track. Individual participants are not required to stay the entire time, but you will find it hard to leave. Because its so much fun!

What makes these Relay Event's Special Raising funds to save lives from cancer. Being part of the American Cancer Society to battle cancer across the nation. Are you aware that these events helps the American Cancer Society license over 20 or more non-governmental cancer organizations in other countries so they can hold Relay for Life events as well.

Why people join Relay for Life? To help support friends, family and even patients searching for a cure. Providing HOPE! https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=zGzqGfO7Q3I&feature=player_detailpage I joined because I lost my father to lung cancer on February 12, 2000. Donald F. Belair born on February 12, 1935, diagnosed on January 1, 2000.

Relay for Life is so SPECIAL because...... Survivors Lap – All cancer survivors at this event walk the first lap around the track, in celebration of their victory of beating cancer. Luminaria Ceremony – Taken place after dark, this is to remember people we have lost to cancer, honor people that have fought cancer, and support those who continue the fight. Personalized bags with candles inside are placed around the track.

Relay for Life Fight Back Ceremony This is a very emotional and powerful event that inspires Relay participant to take action and take the next step to inspire others. This symbolizes the emotional commitment each and every team and team member can make in the fight against cancer. Remember this action taken represents what everyone is willing to do for ourselves, loved ones, as well for our community to fight cancer year-round and making a commitment to saving lives.
