What Does Healthy Mean?

Being healthy Being healthy means more than not being sick, it means living the healthiest life possible.

What can we do to be optimally healthy?

Exercise Make exercise a part of your life. Find whatever you like to do and do it.

Sleep Go to bed and wake up about the same time everyday. You can’t “catch up” on “lost” sleep.

Avoid Harmful Behaviors Stress Drugs & Alcohol Smoking

Have Fun Laugh & Smile Have a hobby Spend time with people you like

Drink Water How much Water do you need? Take your body weight and divide it in half. This is how much you need in ounces every day. Weight divide by 2 = OZ you need 8oz = 1 cup Bottled water 20oz ½ gallon 64ozs Quart = 32ozs

Eat Right What exactly does that mean?

Use My Plate Half Plate Healthy – Make half your plate fruit and vegetables. Reduce the carbohydrates and protein. Eat the recommended servings for you.

Eat Less Fat Reduce the amount of fat when cooking Read the labels on packaged foods Low fat doesn’t always mean low calorie

Eat More Fiber Eat a variety of fruits and vegetables Eat whole grain and whole wheat products Eat brown rice Increasing your FIBER is one of the best things you can do to improve your diet

Let Color Be Your Guide Eat the rainbow diet: By choosing a variety of colored foods everyday

Eat Less Sugar Avoid high fructose corn syrup, corn syrup solids, fructose, sucrose (all types of sugar) Don’t drink extra calories: (Soda, Sweetened Ice tea, Gatorade) Remember soda has empty calories = no nutritional value. It can lead to weight gain.
