Equations With Fractions Lesson 4-6

Remember the Process: Isolate the variable Perform the inverse operation on the side with the variable. Perform the same operation on the other side of the equal sign.

Example: y + 3 = 11 - 3 - 3 y = 8

Now with fractions: 2 1 1 - b = x 1 9 3 9 2 2 6 + + x 3 9 3 3 7 b = 9

Now With Mixed Numbers: c + 5 = 11 x 3 11 4 5 15 9 6 18 - 5 - 5 5 4 4 x 2 8 9 9 18 c = 6 7 18

Check: Substitute the answer in the original equation. + 5 = 11 4 5 9 6 6 7 + 5 = 11 4 5 18 9 6 11 6 7 + 5 = 8 5 6 18 18 11 15 = 11 5 18 6
