Content Area: Math Grade Level: 2 nd Grade Summary: The purpose of this lesson is to help students practice solving word problems involving money. Learning Objective: Given a money word problem, the student will be able to correctly figure out the answer with 100% accuracy. Content Standard: CCSS.Math.Content.2.MD.C.8 Solve word problems involving dollar bills, quarters, dimes, nickels, and pennies, using $ and ¢ symbols appropriately. Example: If you have 2 dimes and 3 pennies, how many cents do you have? Accomplishment: Be able to solve word problems involving money.

First things first. Get out a sheet of paper. Write down five facts that you know about money. This could be what the different coins are, how much they are worth, or what they look like. After you have written down five facts, you may move on.

The next few slides will give you a poem about pennies, nickels, dimes, and dollars and their worth. First, Lets test your knowledge of money. Click on the link below and answer the questions provided about how much each coin is worth.

Penny, penny, easy spent, Copper brown and worth one cent.

Nickel, nickel, thick and fat, Youre worth 5. I know that.
