Color is the most exciting and important element of painting which adds life to any painting or art work. It adds life in our daily life also. Colors make a sketch viable and affect the emotions directly . They affect our thoughts, mood, action, and even health. The world cannot be imagined without colors . Nature presented from morning till night an array of spectacular colors . We jump with joy when we see a colored dancing butterfly or colorful peacock Let’s us also study the relationship of colours to each other and their effect on mind.

SHADES OF COLORS

RHYTHM OF COLORS

TYPES OF COLORS Colors are of three types: 1.Primary colors 2.Secondary colors 3.Neutral colors

1.Primary colors- Red , yellow and blue are primary colors , because they cannot be prepared by mixing other colors. 2.Secondary colors- Orange , green and violet are secondary colors , because they are prepared by mixing two colors. Red + Yellow= Orange Blue + Yellow = Green Red +Blue = Violet 3.Neutral colors- Black and white are nuetral colors. These colors make other colors light and dark. Neutral Colors

Color Wheel A color wheel is the spectrum bent into a circle. It is a useful tool for organizing colors. There are yet another group of six colors called intermediate, or tertiary colors. These are made by mixing a primary color with a secondary colors These colors include yellow green, yellow orange, red orange, blue green, blue violet, red violet. Always list the primary color first when referring to a tertiary color.

Color Schemes Warm colors Analogous Colors…colors that are next to each other on the color wheel, such as green and yellow green. Complementary Colors…colors that are directly across from each other such as yellow and violet. Monochromatic Colors…a color scheme that uses only one hue and black and white mixed with that one color to make tints, or values of that color. Cool colors

Primary Colors and Its Shades

RED Red color expresses excitement , revolution , war , danger, hatred , heat , love , passion . Red color has hot nature

YELLOW The Yellow color expresses grandeur , warmth without heat , light , wisdom and simplicity.

BLUE Blue color expresses cold truth depression , despair and sadness.

SECONDARY COLORS AND IT’S SHADES The orange color is a symbol of goodness , bravery , flames , and happiness.

Green The green color gives the feeling of freshness , spring , pleasantness , jealousy and weakness.

VIOLET The violet color is the symbol of mystery and death , royalty and dignity.

WHITE The white color is the symbol of softness , unity , purity , light , peace and happiness.

BLACK The black color expresses depth , darkness , evil , fear and death

HARMONY OF COLORS The color scheme are of threes types; 1.Contrast or complementary color scheme 2.Analogous color scheme 3.Monochromatic color scheme

Complementary Colors that are opposite each other on the color wheel are considered to be complementary colors (example: red and green). The high contrast of complementary colors creates a vibrant look especially when used at full saturation. This color scheme must be managed well so it is not jarring. Complementary colors are tricky to use in large doses, but work well when you want something to stand out. Complementary colors are really bad for text.

Analogous Analogous color schemes use colors that are next to each other on the color wheel. They usually match well and create serene and comfortable designs. Analogous color schemes are often found in nature and are harmonious and pleasing to the eye. Make sure you have enough contrast when choosing an analogous color scheme. Choose one color to dominate, a second to support. The third color is used (along with black, white or gray) as an accent.

Monochromatic color scheme: By mixing the white or black color with any primary color we get series of shades such scheme is called monochromatic
