Pre-Old Kingdom before 3100 BCE villages of Upper Egypt united under one king same for Lower Egypt 3050 BCE: Upper Egypt takes over Lower Egypt

Old Kingdom one kingdom from 2700 BCE to 2200 BCE generally peaceful started to fight over who would be king priests gained power

Transition Era war and confusion from 2200 BCE to 2050 BCE no strong king provinces separated starvation floods alternating with droughts

Middle Kingdom 2050 BCE to 1800 BCE back to a central government kept ways of Old Kingdom pharoah less powerful trade routes reopened

Another Transition 1800 BCE to 1567 BCE invaders took over Lower Egypt Hyskos chariots and horses

New Kingdom 1567 BCE to 1100 BCE King Ahmose from Upper Egypt takes over expanded into border lands safer from attack
