Female Discrimination 👠 By: Oksana Mikheyeva

Where does female discrimination occur most? Chad Women in Chad have very few rights. Arranged marriages are still common and often times the girls are around 11 and 12 years old. Sudanese Women living in refugee camps in eastern Chad are facing rape and other forms of violence. Outside the camps, they face a range of abuses from harassment and threats to physical attacks, committed by members of opposition armed groups, bandits and members of the Chadian security forces.

What is female discrimination? Gender discrimination is the unfair or unequal treatment of people based on their gender or sexual orientation: gender discrimination occurs against homosexuals, heterosexuals and transgenders, and may be initiated by men or women.

Perspectives Canada🍁- Canada is committed to the view that gender equality is not only a human rights issue, but is also an essential component of sustainable development, social justice, peace, and security. The United Nations Commission on the Status of Women (CSW) meets every year to evaluate progress on gender equality and identify areas where challenges remain.

Perspectives Catholic Church- ‘As women, we have heard the powerful messages of our Church professing dignity and reverence for all persons. As women, we have pondered upon these words. Our contemplation leads us to state that the Church in its struggle to be faithful to its call for reverence and dignity for all persons must respond by providing the possibility of women as persons being included in all ministries of our Church’

Perspectives Various organizations- The United Nations Women's Treaty was implemented a few decades ago was supposed to give women an right to take part in their nations political and public life but that hasn't changed much. In many countries women are still unable to purchase their own property, vote or even wear what they want. In Africa there is still female genital mutilation. Throughout Asia, the former Soviet Union, Latin America, Africa and central and eastern Europe trafficking is still a huge problem. There is still a twenty percent pay gap between men and women working in the same field. If we can keep shedding a light on the discrimination of women throughout the world we can hopefully change things for the better.

Facts Women around the world aged 15-44 are more at risk from rape and domestic violence than from cancer, war, and malaria. The vast majority of violence against woman is committed not by strangers but also by an intimate such as a close relative, father, brother, husband or uncle. More than 16.4 million woman in the world have HIV/AIDS. 603 million woman live in countries where domestic violence is not yet considered a crime. In Saudi Arabia women aren’t allowed to drive or even ride bikes and men aren’t allowed to drive women there not closely related to.

Quick fact Husbands in Egypt and Bahrain can file an official complaint at the airport to forbid their wives from leaving the country for any reason. In Syria, a husband can prevent his wife from leaving the country. In Iraq, Libya, Jordan, Morocco, Oman and Yemen, married women must have their husband’s written permission to travel abroad, and they may be prevented from doing so for any reason. In Saudi Arabia, women must obtain written permission from their closest male relative to leave the country or travel on public transportation between different parts of the kingdom.
