Investigation 2 digit numbers

Pick three different digits Write all the possible 2 digit numbers you can make using these 3 digits. Add together these 2 digit numbers. Add together the original three digits. Divide the first total by the second total. Repeat for different sets of three digits.

Try starting with just 2 digits Try starting with 4 digits What would you expect to happen with 5 digits?

Plenary Why does this happen? Can you explain in words? Can you explain using algebra?
