Discussion Questions Imagine yourself as the narrator and you are walking up into a dilapidated, haunted house. Would you have been brave enough to walk up to the house? How would you feel upon looking at this house?  Think of a time when you walked into a dilapidated haunted house or walked into an unsafe or unfamiliar house before how did you feel and why?

Author's Tone Tone is similar to an author's "tone of voice." It is the attitude that the author has toward his or her readers. Examples of tone could be serious, playful, mocking, and so forth. Pinpoint the tone Poe is using in this piece.  On a new piece of paper in your notebook. Choose what you believe is the "mood" of the piece, and write it in the center of their paper.
