SPACE FUTURE-THE GLOBAL SOLUTIONS FOR THE COMING ENERGY CRISIS G.VAMSHI KRISHNA (III EEE) K.HARIPRASAD (III EEE)

CONTENTS: Introduction Why do we go for SPS? Invention of SPS What is SPS technology? Criteria to go for SPS Ground test program Advantages of SPS Disadvantages of SPS Development plan Conclusion

INTRODUCTION: The global demand for energy is being increased day by day due to population growth . So a major priority is being placed on the development of renewable energy sources. It has two major facts, one is economics and the other is environment.

WHY DO WE GO FOR SPS ?: Natural resources are exhausting Solar energy efficiency low Limited space Demand for energy increasing

INVENTION OF SPS: Invented by Dr.Peter Glaser in 1968. Study led by us department of energy. Idea to build photovoltaic solar power station

WHAT IS SPS TECHNOLOGY ? Keeping SPS in geosynchronous orbit. Exposing SPS to the sun. Converts electricity to radio frequency energy by transmitting antenna. Reconverting into electricity by receiving antenna.

CRITERIA TO GO FOR SPS: Low cost. High efficiency. Less space required. Long lasting. Ecofriendly.

GROUND TEST PROGRAM: Consists of-solar cell power transmitter and receiving antenna. Program will test validate and verify all steps.

ADVANTAGES OF SPS: Low cost. High efficiency. Less space required. Long lasting. Ecofriendly.

DISADVANTAGES OF SPS: High initial cost. Loss of energy. Heavy risk.

DEVELOPMENT PLAN: Development plan schedule

Cost of SPS energy decreases over time Cost of coal power escalates with fuel cost Cost of SPS energy decreases over time

CONCLUSION: This paper reviews the current challenges of launching and building very large space systems. And its need of the hour to initiate the development of solar power satellites and gain the benefits of abundant, low-cost, non polluting energy they will bring.
