Presentation transcript:

Solar Power. Solar power is renewable. The Sun will keep on shining anyway, so it makes sense to use it.

The sun has been producing energy without human help for billions of years. The sun abundantly provides the richest energy source. Solar energy is naturally clean and can be converted into other forms of energy. With a little assistance from humans, it can power new inventions to provide pollution-free energy.

Solar Power Solar Cells really called photovoltaic" or "photoelectric" cells, convert light directly into electricity. In a sunny climate, you can get enough power to run a 100W light bulb from just one square meter of solar panel.

Solar Water Heating Heat from the Sun is used to heat water in glass panels on a roof. Solar heating is worthwhile in places like California and Australia, where you get lots of sunshine.

Solar Furnaces These use a huge array of mirrors to concentrate the Sun's energy into a small space and produce very high temperatures.

Advantages to Solar Power Solar energy is free - it needs no fuel and produces no waste or pollution. In sunny countries, solar power can be used where there is no easy way to get electricity to a remote place. It is handy for low-power uses such as solar powered garden lights and battery chargers.

Solar Power in the UK UK due its geographical position receives about 60% of the solar energy received by places situated at the equator. An area of 40 square meters in the UK receives about 37000 KWh of solar energy in one year. UK gets enough sun to cover 70% of its hot water needs. There is a greater amount of energy to be collected in the south of the UK, but there is also plenty in the north.

The largest solar farm in the UK is the 48 MW Southwick Estate solar farm, near Fareham, finished in March 2015. The expansion of solar energy in the UK is as important as it is for the rest of the world since it will reduce the dependency on fossil fuels and at the same time reduce the CO2 emissions making our environment cleaner and healthier.
