YOU HAVE GOT TO BE IN IT TO WIN IT! ATTENDANCE YOU HAVE GOT TO BE IN IT TO WIN IT!

ATTENDANCE ALL CHILDREN BETWEEN THE AGES OF 5 AND 17 ARE REQUIRED TO ATTEND SCHOOL.

DAILY ATTENDANCE ATTENDANCE MUST BE TAKEN DAILY FOR ALL STUDENTS. WHEN STUDENTS ARRIVE TARDY TEACHERS MUST ADJUST THE STUDENT’S ATTENDANCE THAT DAY IN POWERTEACHER. THE STUDENT’S ATTENDANCE DETAIL REPORT IS OFTEN SEEN BY JUDGES, DJJ, DSS AND OTHER OUTSIDE AGENCIES. ACCURACY IS A MUST!

LAWFUL/EXCUSABLE ABSENCES (NOTES MUST BE PRESENTED) ABSENCE DUE TO A CHILDS ILLNESS ABSENCE DUE TO AN IMMEDIATE FAMILY MEMBER’S ILLNESS (3 DAYS PER YEAR) ABSENCE DUE TO BEREAVEMENT ABSENCE DUE TO A COURT APPEARANCE ABSENCE DUE TO A SCHOOL ACTIVITY ABSENCE APPROVED BY THE SCHOOL PRINCIPAL IN ADVANCE

TRUANCY A CHILD BETWEEN THE AGES OF 6 AND 17 IS CONSIDERED TRUANT WHEN THEY ACCUMULATE THREE (3) CONSECUTIVE UNLAWFUL OR FIVE (5) TOTAL UNLAWFUL ABSENCES.

INTERVENTION ONCE A CHILD IS IDENTIFIED AS A TRUANT THE SCHOOL ADMINISTRATOR IS REQUIRED TO MEET WITH THE PARENT AND CHILD (12 YEARS AND OLDER) AND COMPLETE AN ATTENDANCE INTERVENTION PLAN (AIP).

HABITUAL TRUANT A CHILD WHO FAILS TO COMPLY WITH THE AIP, AND ACCUMULATES TWO MORE UNLAWFUL ABSENCES IS A HABITUAL TRUANT AND MUST BE REFERRED TO THE DISTRICT ATTENDANCE OFFICE WHICH MAY RESULT IN A FAMILY COURT REFERRAL.

BARRIERS TO ATTENDANCE FURTHER ASSESSMENTS ARE MADE TO IDENTIFY BARRIERS TO ATTENDANCE; SUCH AS HEALTH OF CHILD OR IMMEDIATE FAMILY MEMBER, MENTAL HEALTH ISSUES, ABUSE/NEGLECT, HOMLESSNESS, POVERTY, PEER ISSUES, TRANSPORTATION, ETC.

DIVERSION PROGRAMS FAMILIES ARE REFERED TO COMMUNITY AND SCHOOL BASED PROGRAMS TO ADDRESS THEIR CURRENT NEEDS: TEENS UNDER FIRE PARENT PROJECT PROJECT RIGHT TURN DEPARTMENT OF SOCIAL SERVICES GIRLS CIRCLE GUIDANCE NTERVENTION TEEN AFTER SCHOOL CENTER TUTORING MENTAL HEALTH CREDIT RECOVERY BOYS AND GIRLS CLUB ALTERNATIVE EDUCATION

FAMILY COURT FAILURE TO COMPLY WITH THE ATTENDANCE INTERVENTION PLAN MAY RESULT IN A SCHOOL ATTENDANCE ORDER BEING ISSUED, UNTIL THE CHILD IS 17 YEARS OLD. CHILDREN BETWEEN THE AGES OF 12 TO 17 CAN BE INCLUDED IN THIS ORDER IF IT IS DETERMINED THAT THEY ARE CONTRIBUTING TO THE TRUANCY.

COURT ORDER VIOLATION A REFERRAL TO THE DEPARTMENT OF SOCIAL SERVICES FOR EDUCATIONAL NEGLECT. PARENTS WILL FACE A FINE OF $50.00 A DAY AND/OR 30 DAYS IN JAIL FOR EVERY UNLAWFUL DAY MISSED. CHILDREN 12 YEARS AND OLDER CAN BE ADJUDICATED DELINQUENT AND SUBJECT TO THE DEPARTMENT OF JUVENILE JUSTICE.

ATTENDANCE NOT ONLY IS IT MADATORY BUT IT IS THE FIRST STEP TOWARDS SUCCESS AND GRADUATION. YOU’VE GOT TO BE IN IT TO WIN IT!
