SUGGESTIONS FOR TASK FORCE ACTIVITIES Advocacy of resources: QUANTIFY AND REDUCE ERRORS IN MODEL ESTIMATES FOR INTERCONTINENTAL TRANSPORT – ultimately through inverse analyses and data assimilation improve underestanding of the factors affecting background tropospheric ozone need model analysis of satellite observations for ozone and precursors, related processes (lightning, fires) characterize OC aerosol reservoir in free troposphere, assess its contribution to intercontinental transport of pollution field campaigns: mountain sites, aircraft satellite observations as constraints on aerosol intercontinental transport mechanism development for SOA formation during aging extend Hg observational network to enable inverse model analyses directed at Hg budget Initiatives: define quantitative criteria for intercontinental transport, sponsor model intercomparisons sponsor assessments of the state of the science organize biannual meetings
