What if you felt this way every day? Feeling Global Hunger How do you feel when you are hungry? Imagine… Hunger can cause poor health, low levels of energy, and even mental impairment What if you felt this way every day?

Global Hunger Statistics There are an estimated 840 million malnourished people in the world Malnutrition plays a role in half of childhood deaths each year: five million deaths 50 million children are permanently blinded each year simply through lack of vitamin A More than 500 million people in poor countries suffer from chronic anemia due to inadequate diet

Statistics cont. Of the 7 billion people on earth, about 20% drink water from unimproved sources Water-related diseases claim millions of lives each year One in three people worldwide die prematurely because of hunger

We have enough food… The world produces 17 percent more calories per person today than it did 30 years ago… Even considering population increase, this is enough to provide everyone in the world with at least 2,800 calories per day

Global Hunger and Poverty A person born in the rich world will consume 30 times as much food as a person born in the poor world The poor countries have nearly 75% of the world's population, but consume only about 15% of the world's available energy Sources: The Utah Education Network; Sources of Information: www.unicef.org, www.bread.org, www.worldhunger.org SO WHAT’S THE DEAL?
