PRELIMINARY OVERVIEW OF THE 2008 COUNTY EMERGENCY MANAGEMENT SURVEY

Response Rate As of 5:00p.m. on 10/14/08: 65 of 67 Counties Responded (97%) 54 of the 65 Counties that responded answered all questions in the survey. (83%)

Survey Question: What do you feel should be the top legislative priority for emergency management in the State of Florida for the 2009 Legislative Session? Sampling of Answers: Increased funding for County Emergency Management Agencies. Special Risk Designation for Emergency Managers

Provide technology upgrades/redundant communications between weather field offices (WFO) and transmitter sites that broadcast emergency messages to NOAA weather radios. Pet friendly shelter initiative/funding. Adequate funding for the State DEM program. Disaster Housing Issues Give legitimacy to the EM profession by mandating certifications and standards for EM professionals.
