A cognate is when a spanish word resembles an English word. Cognates Cognates are VERY important! A cognate is when a spanish word resembles an English word.

Cognate For example, the number cero looks similar to the English word, zero.

Cognate Words that resemble one another and that have the same meaning in two languages are called cognates.
