Revolution: Part 4 8th Grade

Things to Remember: Continental Army: created by the 2nd Continental Congress to defend the colonies from Britain, commanded by George Washington. Declaration of Independence: Statement that defined the colonists’ rights, outlined their complaints against Great Britain, and declared the colonies’ independence. Patriots: Colonists who fought for independence. Loyalists: Colonists who sided with Britain in the revolution. Also called Tories.

New Hope: 8.22 Battle of Trenton: battle in New Jersey in which Patriots captured British Troops on Christmas night after crossing the Delaware River. Battle of Princeton: battle in which Patriots drove back British forces in New Jersey.

Turning Point: 8.22 Battle of Saratoga: battle in New York that resulted in a major defeat of British Troops, Patriots’ greatest victory up to this point.
