Why? Mostly USSF Youth Soccer program changes Guidelines for 2016-2017 Required starting MY2017 Some AYSO specific changes

Age Brackets by calendar year Was U10 (under 10). Now 10U (10 and under) http://www.ayso.org/For_Volunteers/region_boards/registrar/registr ar_res/age_guide.htm For MY2017, bracket is based on age as of 31 December 2018 A child born 5 October 2008 will be 10 on 12/31/18 and in 10U Youth born 12/31/2000 and earlier will be ineligible for MY17

Field Sizes Old New U6 - 6U 30y x 15y field; 4’x6’ goal

No Throw in until 9U/10U Use a pass-in for 8U and below Opponents must be 2 yards away This is AYSO only – USSF did not mandate this one

No Keeper punt (or drop kick) until 14U Keeper must play the ball from the hand or pass to teammate Treat as dangerous play (indirect free kick) At spot of punt, or on edge of goal area Note 10U: pass must be to teammate on their side of build out line The objective is to improve developing play from the back and control Foul is “deliberately punting or drop kicking” A keeper clearing the ball is not a foul FWIW – USSF allows punt for 12U (9v9). AYSO does not.

Build Out Line (9U/10U only) Some confusion on location AYSO Rules and Regulations & USSF briefing: equidistant between the top of the penalty area and the halfway line. Other docs have other locations. All opponents must move (or be moving) beyond the buildout line Goal keeper ball in hand Goal kick Goal kick or keeper play to teammate on their side of build out line This is really confusing: The opposing team must move behind the build-out line for a goal kick or when the goalkeeper has possession. At any time, the goalkeeper may pass, throw or roll the ball to a teammate who is behind the build-out line. No offside on own side of build out line

Build Out Line

10U Goal Kick and Keeper ball in hand Opponents must move (or be moving) behind build out line Defense does not have to wait to play the ball Just like the required distance for a free kick Opponents may cross line when the ball is in play Crosses the penalty area on a goal kick Released by the keeper Play must be to teammate on own side of build out line
