Kingdom Protista: Multicellular Algae Seaweeds- multicellular algae Lots of variety Complex structures Intricate reproductive strategies

Thallus The complete body of an alga, not differentiated into true leaves, stems or roots.

General Part of Seaweed Blades- leaf-like forms. Not true leaves. Photosynthetic Pneumatocysts- gas-filled bladders that keep the blades afloat

Stipe Holdfast Stem-like part. Connect the blades and pneumatocysts. Anchors- looks like roots but do not absorb water or nutrients like roots

Green Algae Phylum Chlorophyta Found in salt water (10%), fresh water and even land Chlorophyll is main pigment Can be planktonic or form filaments Common green algae is Ulva
