2nd Grade Earth Science Lesson 3 What is the Sequence, or Order, of Events in the Forming of Fossils? Standard 3d: Students know that fossils provide evidence about the plants and animals that lived long ago and that scientists learn about the past history of Earth by studying fossils. 2nd Grade Earth Science Lesson 3

dinosaur A dinosaur is an animal that lived on Earth long ago. Dinosaurs roamed the earth for centuries, and how they died no one knows for sure, but their bones have been fossilized for many to see. 2nd Grade Earth Science Lesson 3

Fossil A fossil is what is left of an animal or a plant that lived long ago. Fossils can be a tooth, a skeleton, or a shell that has turned into rock. 2nd Grade Earth Science Lesson 3 2nd Grade Earth Science Lesson 1

footprint A footprint is an impression of the foot on a surface whether it is from an animal or human. Scientists can learn from an animal’s footprint what its feet looked like, how big it might have been, and whether it walked upright or on four legs. 2nd Grade Earth Science Lesson 3

imprint An imprint is an observable trace left by pressure. The archeologist found an imprint of a dinosaur's foot that was embedded or set in river mud. 2nd Grade Earth Science Lesson 3
