Anne Frank By: Elizabeth LANTZ Crislynn Sellers

Anne Frank Annelies Marie Frank was her full name She was born on June 12, 1929 in Frankfurt Germany She was the second daughter of Otto Frank and Edith Frank-Hollander She also had an older sister, Margot Frank.

Anne dreamed of becoming an actress She loved watching movies, but the Dutch Jews were forbidden access to movie theatres Anne was outspoken, energetic, and extroverted.

Time in Amsterdam Four years after Anne was born, the election was held which is where Adolf Hitler won. Anne’s parents were getting worried about what Hitler was going to do, so they moved to Amsterdam where they would be safe for a little while. Anne was enrolled in a Montessori while her sister Margot was enrolled in a public school. Things were good, her father managed to set up a business and her mother took care of the house.

Diary For her 13th birthday Anne received a book she had shown her father in a shop window a few days earlier. Although it was an autograph book, bound with plaid cloth with a small lock on the front, Anne decided she would use it as a diary, and began writing in it. Although many of her entries were of her life, she also discusses some changes in the Netherlands since the German occupation. She kept this diary her whole life and wrote about her experiences.

Hiding in Amsterdam Danger was growing greater in Amsterdam, so her family decided to go in to hiding. They moved in to the Secret Annex, and there were four other Jews with them. On July 13th 1942, the Franks were joined by the van Pels family: Herman and Auguste van Pels with their son Peter, and Fritz Pfeffer. Also, four of Otto’s employees help them too. With everyone living in constant fear of discovery, it was certainly not easy for eight people to live in such a small room. During this time, Anne wrote in her diary about her feelings, beliefs and ambitions.

Found On the morning of August 4 1944, everyone in the annex is arrested. They were taken on a train to Auschwitz, then the men and women are separated. The Nazi’s doctors decided which prisoners will be killed immediately. Anne along with Margot and their mothers were separated from their father.

In the concentration camp Anne is stripped of her clothing, forced to haul rocks, and had to have her head shaved. Disease was spreading fast and before long, Anne’s skin became badly infected by scabies. She and Margot were moved in and infirmary, which was filled with constant darkness. Edith Frank stopped eating, saving every single piece of food for her daughters and passing her rations to them, through a hole she made at the bottom of the infirmary wall. Her mother died from starvation in the camp. Margot was very ill and weak and fell from her bunk and was killed by the shock, and a few days later Anne died. After liberation, the camp was born to prevent any diseases from spreading. Anne and her sister were buried in a unknown grave.

Auschwitz

Anne’s Father Her father was the only one out of the family to survive the Holocaust. He returned to Amsterdam after the war, and he tried to locate his family. Later he learned that his whole family died of the Holocaust. He found his daughters Diary and he Published it.

How Anne’s Life Story has affected us today Today Anne’s dairy has been published into a book, in many different languages. She is the voice for other Jews in the Holocaust. She teaches us today of the things they had to go through and gives us a better understanding of how the world was and life was for her. Anne was a teenager and it gives teenagers today a better understanding if we were in her shoes.
