Photo by Dorothea Lange Lange began as a portrait photographer in San Francisco, she was shocked by the number of homeless people and took their pictures to draw attention to their predicament.

Her most prominent pictures were taken when she was employed by the Farm Security Administration. Photo by Dorothea Lange

Her most famous photograph is “Migrant Mother” “I saw and approached the hungry and desperate mother, as if drawn by a magnet… There she sat in that lean-to tent with her children huddled around her, and seemed to know that my pictures might help her, and so she helped me. There was a sort of equality about it.” She said of the experience. Photo by Dorothea Lange

The End Photo by Dorothea Lange This benefit of seeing…can come only if you pause a while, extricate yourself from the maddening mob of quick impressions ceaselessly battering our lives, and look thoughtfully at a quiet image…the viewer must be willing to pause, to look again, to meditate. – Dorothea Lange
