What's the problem Soaring petrol prices, A limited supply of crude oil Pollution and the release of greenhouse gasses Huge amounts of fuel lost by cars with engines running in traffic jams, and stop start driving. Huge increases in road traffic, causing huge pressure to develop road infrastructure Petrol prices are going up, Especially in the UK after tax increases. This according to experts is only going to continue as the oil supply slowly begins to run dry. Pollution is a massive problem, global warming and greenhouse gasses are a major consideration of government. Release of other toxic compounds other than CO2 also need to be considered, such as carbon monoxide and Sulphur Dioxide Huge amounts of fuel are wasted every day by cars sitting in traffic jams. Every time a driver puts on the brakes kinetic energy is also wasted, energy that has required the burning of fuel to create. A Surge in population growth has introduced some serious problems, with the road infastructure.

The Honda FCX clarity An Electric car, Running on a Hydrogen fuel cell, Regenerative braking Simple design with fewer parts The Honda FCX clarity is an electric car that draws its power from a Hydrogen Fuel cell, a simple device that uses Hydrogen gas as a fuel source and releases nothing but water as a waste product. It features a relatively new idea, called regenerative braking, instead of kinetic energy being wasted as heat energy during braking, it can be converted back into electrical energy which is stored in the cars battery The Honda features a simple direct drive design, its single gear means radically less parts than a normal car, no need for a clutch or a bulky gear box, maintenance is easier, brake pads last longer and regenerative braking reduces the need for them to be used as often and as hard

The Solution Running on Hydrogen, The superabundant element Regenerative braking, capturing energy lost in braking A simpler design, Easier to maintain. No clutch, no energy needed when stationary Hydrogen is the most common thing in the visible universe, It is currently believed to comprise around 75% of the universe, on earth it is one of the two components of water, which covers two thirds of our globe in ocean. Running a car on this would always mean a constant supply of fuel, one that would never realistically be exhausted. Regenerative braking isn't the newest of ideas, It allows energy that would otherwise be lost in heat to the brake pads, to be captured and used to recharge the battery. The Honda FCX Clarity uses the battery to run the car and the Fuel Cell to keep the battery charged. This means the Clarity is very efficient in Urban driving compared to other cars. The Honda FCX clarity is Direct drive, This means it has only one gear, this can be achieved for two simple reasons, An electric motor can produce a large amount of torque at lower revs than car engines can, they can also rev very high quite safely and still maintaining energy efficiency. Meaning they can drive down the motorway in the same gear they pull away in Electric cars don’t need a clutch, they can pull away from Zero revs, this means the engine isn't using fuel waiting for the lights to change or sitting in a traffic jam. The electric motor doesn’t idle rev, it just turns on and goes!
